Summer is for swimming

My baby turns 5

Picture of Liam 24 hours after birth, by our friend Jocelyn, is one of my most prized possessions.
I can’t believe it was FIVE years ago, that I held the chubby bundle of newness in my arms that we named Liam James. Liam is one of our greatest gifts in life. He still loves to snuggle. He still loves to sleep. He still loves to eat. He still has his big lips and long eyelashes. His baby fat and belly have faded over the last year, and and out of that toddler has grown a long lean BOY. He is impatient and thinks the world revolves around him. He is sweet and words and hugs are the way he shows his love. He will often wake up in the middle of the night and as Michael carries him back to bed he will whisper, “tell mommy she’s pretty and I love her.” Gah. He melted my heart long before he entered the world, and continues to do so. He has so much energy, he loves to sing, he loves to dance, he adores animals, he enjoys little moments of quiet. He is currently obsessed with Star Wars and anything that has to do with conquering. He is our strong warrior. I guess we should pay closer attention to the name we give any subsequent children, because our kids sure tend to take their names literally.
I love you, Liam. I am grateful that you are part of my life and that I get to be your mommy. I pray I can always love and protect you well. Happy 5th birthday, sweet boy.
